It’s National Sausage Week from 31st October- 6th November, an entire week dedicated to delicious pork sausages. A fantastic ingredient I think it’s a wonderful chance to go back to basics and enjoy one of the simplest ingredients on the market.

I always pick organic sausages from a trusted butcher and now many butchers and supermarkets offer a great selection from traditional pork to flavoured sausages like apple and cider and herbed and spiced – these are my favourites.

This time of year is a perfect for such a wholesome ingredient which can be used in many different recipes. However, with Bonfire night just around the corner I can’t think of a better or simpler way to enjoy sausages than a hot dog.

Ensure you choose a good quality batch of sausages and accompany with caramelised onion and mushrooms. For a traditional finish serve in a white bun with ketchup and mustard. Alternatively if you’d like something a little more gourmet how about a seeded bread and swop ketchup for a spicy or mint sauce. Yummy!
