Annette's websites of the week

Citizen Advice Bureau If you ever find yourself with a legal, financial or consumer problems the Citizen Advice Bureau is always a good organisation to contact as they are able to offer free, confidential and reliable support.

CAB logoThe CAB website is a great site to bookmark as it is packed with useful information. From help and advice, downloadable PDF’s and further contact details to external organisations and charities that may be able to help you with a specific problem. For example Consumer Credit Counselling, Which? Shelter and many others all work in association with Citizen Advice Bureau.

This week CAB are running Big Energy Week to help the public save money on their ever increasing energy bills. Offering an insight into clever ways to switch suppliers (energy comparison sites such as are high recommended) and get answers from the big energy suppliers themselves. It’s a great incentive to encourage the general public to take action against costly energy prices.

As Helen Skelton skies, kites and bike rides cross the Antarctic to raise money for the charity, radio DJ Fearne Cotton and comedian Jimmy Carr waved the flag for 2012’s event here.

Joined by boy band JLS who have been promoting their brand new single ‘Proud’, which is also the official Sport Relief 2012 anthem. They are all encouraging the nation to enrol in Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile.

The tabloid rumour mill has it that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may also be hitting the streets of London to do their bit too!

So if you’re interested in making a donation or joining the many thousands who are running, walking or jogging the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile visit the official Sport Relief 2012 website where you can find a mile near you and enter according.

Say No To 0870- This week Richard Wilson investigated the concept of automated telephone systems which appear to be sending the nation mad with frustration. In the programme ‘Richard Wilson on Hold’ featured on Channel 4, Richard was seen looking into how long callers are expected to wait and how much these lengthy calls are costing.

It would appear that in some cases we are made to hang on for up to an hour when calling well-known companies leaving us with a hefty bill. In the show Richard offered tips on how to get around the dreaded customer service lines which are generally clogged up and expensive.

One tip was to check out a website which catalogues telephone numbers of business (small or large) across the country. They list their  0870 number which generally incurs a pricey charge alongside alternatives from free to local rate numbers for the company you wish to contact.

The site is easy to use and if you’re looking for a large company you will have no problem finding an alternative number. As a business owner myself I am proud to say that all Bath-Knight telephone numbers are free or local rate something which I think is incredibly important.
