Britain’s Got TalentThe country seems to be gripped by Britain’s Got Talent after a series of live semi-finals this week. With the 10 finalists now selected everyone is looking forward to Saturday night’s live final show (ITV, 7.30pm) where the public will choose the 2012 BGT winner who will receive an enormous £500,000 and the opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Show in front of the Queen.

I’ve really enjoyed this year’s show but I have to admit that I’ve not had chance to watch every semi-final show so I am a little behind on which acts got through to the final. Luckily the Britain’s Got Talent website is packed with all of the latest news from the semi-final shows including profiles of this year’s finalists, videos of their performances and exclusive interviews with contestants and judges.

So if you’re planning on watching the Britain’s Got Talent final this weekend checkout the website before hand to find out more about your favourite act. I’m backing the ‘paw-some’ duo Ashleigh and Pudsey because I can’t help but adore a dancing doggy.

London 2012 Olympic Games- This summer’s Olympic Games seem to be edging ever closer and this week a handful of events have taken place to ramp up the excitement including The School Games and the lighting of the Olympic Flame. Today the Olympic Orbit Tower, a steel sculpture designed by Anish Kappor was officially opened too.

The statement sculpture, which has caused a dived between people who love it and loath it, boasts a structure that is taller than New York’s Statue of Liberty and a observational suite that offers panoramic views of London. I’m yet to decide whether or not I like the design- what do you think?

In addition to the opening of Orbit Tower an extra 200,000 Olympic tickets were released this morning to Olympic applicants who were unsuccessful in securing tickets for the Games during earlier ticket distributions. With tickets to most events on offer, including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, I’m sure that there will be lots of very happy Olympic customers by the end of today.

Age UK Care in CrisisThis week’s Queen’s Speech to open parliament disappointed many people including those who had hoped for a change in the social care system. Instead of a full social care bill been announced the speech revealed that only a draft bill on social care would be drawn up by the government this year.

Care in Crisis

Please support Age UK’s Care in Crisis campaign

For charities such as Age UK who have campaigned for change the draft bill is deeply unsatisfying. Despite this Age UK is still steaming ahead in their campaign for change in social care. To achieve a full bill next year they need to secure as much support as possible, which is why Age UK want as many people as possible to sign up to their Care in Crisis petition.

The online petition takes less than a couple of minutes to complete and includes a full and in depth insight into the whole Care in Crisis campaign, which I believe is worthwhile supporting because it could eventually help implement crucial change to the care system that we will all use at one point or another- sign the petition here.

What a wonderful weekend of dance as the Strictly Come Dancing 2011 series came to an end in Blackpool on Saturday night.

The final contestants Jason Donovan, Chelsee Healey and Harry Judd had the pleasure of preforming their final dances at the legendary home of dance, Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom.

The final saw incredible performances which all seemed worthy of top scores. I simply adored Chelsee’s Shrek themed jive, Jason’s show dance was brilliant and Harry’s quickstep was out of this world to say the least.

Harry Judd Strictly Come Dancing

Despite all three finalists having the potential to win it was McFly’s Harry Judd who was crowned Strictly Come Dancing 2011 winner lifting the glitter ball trophy with great pride alongside professional partner Aliona Vilani.

I think that this series has possibly been the best yet and I’m so pleased with all of the finalists. It’s particularly nice to see Harry win as we’ve seen him transform into a real dancers over the series. His Argentine tango was simply mesmerising on Saturday night dare I say one of the best dances in strictly history, in my opinion.

Huge congratulations to Harry, Chelsee and Jason for a brilliant final as always such brilliant entertainment which the whole family can enjoy together.

This weekend The X Factor has dominated TV as the three remaining acts- Amelia Lily, Marcus Collins and Little Mix battled it out to win The X Factor 2011.

The finale show, which ran over both Saturday and Sunday evenings, saw numerous performances from the finalists including their favourite song from the series, a festive number and a collaborative performance with their respective mentors.

Alongside the finalists more established performers topped the lined up including former X Factor contestants JLS, Leona Lewis and One Direction, and a specular two song set from Coldplay who wonderful lit up Wembley Arena with their neon themed performance.

After Amelia Lily was eliminated on Saturday the final two places were left to Marcus Collins and Little Mix who both showcased the winner’s song- a cover version of Damien Rice’s Cannonball- on Sunday’s show.

It was girl band Little Mix who came out victorious winning the final public vote the girl band successfully created X Factor history becoming the first band ever to win the show. We’re all happy with the winners here in the Bath-Knight office as Little Mix have been our favourites throughout.

A big congratulation to Little Mix- we’re looking forward to seeing more of them in the New Year!

If like me you’ve missed a couple of episode from this year’s The X Factor the official website is packed with the latest news, previous performances and exclusive looks at the finalist which you won’t find elsewhere.

Additionally the site includes beauty and fashion tips with the help of The X Factor’s new partnerships including brands such as Rimmel London and Marks and Spencer. Overall the site is a real success and gives a great insight to the show- a must view site if you’re planning on watching this weekend’s final.

mands logoMarks and SpencerFor me and many of my friends Marks and Spencer is a safe haven, especially around Christmas time. With a real push to keep up with the times- hence their recent partnership with The X Factor- M&S is a store which can fulfil everyone’s needs.

From spectacular foods and drinks, home furnishing and clothing for all- they now have on trend fashion collections which sit alongside more traditional ranges. M&S is living up to its iconic reputation.

Even better Marks and Spencer has a fantastic website, which I frequently use, selling everything which you will find in store plus online exclusives. Undoubtedly I’ll be visiting the site before Christmas… a forgotten gift, replenishing wrapping paper or delicious Christmas nibbles which will go down a treat.

Royal Mail- With Christmas fast approaching it’s a good idea to log onto the Royal Mail’s website to find out when you’re post deadline is for cards and parcels. It might be handy to note that many overseas deadlines are this week, which means that you really do need to get your Christmas wishes in the post soon if you’ve not already.

Royal Mail’s online Christmas tool is really efficient and easy to use. Simply select where you would like to send your post too and the service type (First Class, Second Class etc…) then click ‘find posting date’ and the site will calculate your deadline date.

Alternatively the Royal Mail has produced a ‘last posting date’ table which lists all dates and services accordingly.  I’ve printed this out and kept it in my organiser in case of any last minute emergency mail outs.

Remember ‘Post Early for Christmas’ as Royal Mail’s vintage poster campaign so famously said.

After another round of technical bakes and the final challenge of baking for a ‘British Summer Time’ street party the winner of The Great British Bake Off was crowned on last night’s show.

All three finalists Holly, Jo and Mary-Anne produced beautiful creations, which each showed off their brilliant skill and passion towards baking.

However, only one could be crowned as the winner and in turn Britain’s best armature home baker. To my delight Jo, the housewife and mum from Essex walked away with the winning spot after producing a wonderful selection of classic cakes and tarts including the most delicious looking mini banoffee pie.

The Great British Bake Off has been a wonderful show with endless amounts of inspiration to get me back into the kitchen baking treats for my family and friends, and I hope you’ve felt inspired to do the same too. I’m already looking forward to series three.

If you can’t wait for another year The Great British Bake Off: How To Bake book has been released featuring a variety of recipes from this series. Enjoy!

The Great British Bake Off- The Final!

Great British Bake Off LogoFor the last 7 weeks I’ve looked forward to Tuesday evening. As at 8pm I’ve curled up on the sofa and watched one of my favourite ‘reality’ TV shows – The Great British Bake Off.

Described in one article today as ‘The X Factor – but with cake’ the show does have some clear similarities. Experienced judges; baking goddess and cookbook author Marry Berry along with artisan baker, Paul Hollywood. Contestants; 12 amateur bakers from all walks of life topped off with weekly tasks and challenges to push their baking talents to the very limit.

Although it might not sounds as glamorous and dramatic as other reality shows. You shouldn’t be fooled. I can’t think of anything tenser than contestants peering into their ovens to ensure iced fingers are rising sufficiently and tarts aren’t getting too golden.

Great British Bake Off

The truth is The Great British Bake Off is a fantastically charming programme, which has rallied an incredible amount of public support. The show has single handily raised BBC’s Tuesday evening rating as viewer’s, including myself, sit with their fingers crossed hoping that Jo’s bread rises and Janet’s croissants survive their bake.

Excitingly tonight is the big night as The Great British Bake Off reaches the final. The pressure is on for finalists Holly, Mary-Anne and Jo (the show’s dark horse but a favourite of mine) who face the final challenge of baking for a celebratory street party. I’m expecting lots of iced buns, Victoria sandwiches cakes and Bakewell tarts.

After 12 weeks of watching baking triumphs and a few baking slipups I’m really looking forward to seeing who will be crowned 2011’s winner and the best amateur baker. More so I’m looking forward to seeing the wonderful creations which tonight’s final will undoubtedly offer as I’ve come away with lots of fantastic ideas and tip from the show thus far.

I thought it would be a nice idea to share Paul Hollywood’s Iced Finger recipe to celebrate The Great British Bake Off 2011– a bun which is always a pleasure to eat but one which I know people rarely bake at home.

Enjoy!
