Father’s Day is right around the corner so I thought I’d share some of my favourite gift ideas. I always think that Father’s Day can be a little tricky so I think it’s best to find something that your father specifically wants or go with a classic piece. Here I’ve chosen a variety of practical purchases, all from the high street or online, that will go down a treat whatever your budget.

1. Men’s Fragrance –Boots
2. ‘Best Dad’ Mug – Emma Bridgewater
3. I Love Dad chocolates – Thorntons
4. No.1 Dad cufflinks – Notonthehighstreet
5. Stripy socks – John Lewis
6. Beer & Ale – Marks & Spencer
7. Wallet – Aspinal of London
8. Hip Flask – Aspinal of London
9. Subbutteo – Waterstones

Christmas Gift Ideas

With only 22 days until Christmas and a picturesque scattering of snow outside I’ve decided to begin my Christmas shopping.

Buying the perfect present can be a challenge for us all. The classic questions I always find myself asking are what would they like for Christmas? And will they use it?

After writing a list, I find that this is a great way to stay organised and keep myself in check with what I’ve brought. I came to Ron who is my Father-in-Law. At 90 years old, Ron is doing brilliantly; he has a great outlook on life and manages to keep up with lots of things online. He does his weekly food shop via the Internet and sends emails to friends and family.

Of course, I want to buy a perfect Christmas gift but I want to buy something that Ron will enjoy and make the most of. I’ve taken some time to think about my options and thought that I’d share my ideas with you.

As many of you might also be looking for something similar for a loved one of your own. A creative gift that will keep an elderly relative engaged, entertained and active.

Here are a few of my favourites which I think Ron and anyone like Ron would like very much indeed.

I adore the selection of gifts which are available at Past Times. The online site has specific sections which are dedicated to perfect gift ideas for Grandparents. It offers a wide selection of nostalgic, witty and just lovely gift ideas.

My personal favourites are The Traditional Dominoes Set which is a perfect gift for an elderly person who enjoyed playing as a pastime, which doubles up as a great reason for Grandfather to teach the children how to play the beloved game. Another favourite is The Past Times 2010 Crossword Jigsaw Puzzle which can also be played amongst friends and family.

Another fun and slightly obscure idea I have come across is a Wasgij Puzzle. Described as a unique jigsaw puzzle which does not display the picture which the puzzle will ensemble in its entirety. Instead the concept is that you are puzzling what the characters in the box image are looking at to figure out what is causing the scene.

This jigsaw is one which I have heard quite a lot about and think that it would be a hit with Ron and other elderly people as not only are the final puzzle images humorous but challenging and lots of fun to complete!

I hope this gives you some ideas about gifts… and if you have any ideas of your own I would love to hear about them too.

Annette.
