When you think about antique shows Cash in the Attic and Antique Road Show instantly spring to mind. Although these programmes have served us well over the years it’s easy to see why some people think that they have become a little outdated.

Last year Channel 4 came up with a new idea that brings the art of antique buying back into fashion. The contemporary show titled, Four Rooms, showcases both selling and buying one-off items and gives at glimpse at how cut throating negotiating can be.

Four Rooms Dealers

Now in its second series Four Rooms has become a success with both a young and older audience who all anxiously await the value of the items featured. This series has included some incredible pieces like a signed dress which Amy Winehouse wore only months before her death, the Volkswagon Golf that Kate Middleton drove whilst studying at St. Andrews, a slice of cake from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip’s wedding cake. Not to mention the chair which JK Rowling sat on whilst writing the first two books in the Harry Potter series.

Along with these remarkable items the show also has a modern twist, which I think makes it all the more interesting. As sellers only get one chance to make a deal, if they decline an offer which a dealer puts forward it is gone for good. They simply have to move on to the next dealer and hope for the best. If they don’t agree on a price with any of the four dealers they leave without a sale which makes anxious but entertaining viewing.

Four Rooms is definitely a programme which I would recommend for the entire family to watch together because it includes something for everyone from modern day pieces which encompass today’s culture to vintage antiques which carry years of memories and everything in between.

Catch up with Four Rooms on 40D now or tune in to next week’s episode on Wednesday evening at 8pm-Channel 4.

The Royal Wedding was without a doubt the event of 2011. Here at Bath-Knight we all enjoyed the royal couples big day and my blog was host to countless ‘royal wedding’ themed posts, which all got great responses.

It’s fair to say that Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, in which she transformed into the Duchess of Cambridge, captured the nation. The photographs of Kate emerging from the car outside Westminster Abbey have become icon, as we all gasped with sheer joy to see how beautiful the new royal looked.

It’s with great excitement that everyone is invited to see the Duchesses dress up close as a variety of royal wedding pieces are going on display at the annual summer exhibition at Buckingham Palace.

Visitors will be able to see the Alexander McQueen wedding dress, which is displayed in the Ball Room and surprising not behind a glass screen. Along with the Duchesses size 5.5 wedding shoes, wedding day earrings and also the Cartier tiara which was lent by the Queen.

Even better the wedding cake, which is cut by the royal couple, is on display. It’s said that the top layer is a replica as Prince William and Kate decided to keep the top layer as many do traditionally.

The summer show at Buckingham Palace this year looks to be a wonderful event with reports this morning suggesting that tickets are selling quickly. I hope I get a chance to visit myself to relive the enjoyment of the royal wedding.

With so much excitement around the royal wedding, I think it goes without saying that most people can’t wait to see Kate’s dress.

Fashion designers are amongst those who are eagerly waiting to see the Bride in her gown. As of yet the designer of the dress which Kate will wear is unknown. However, famous and influential designers including Valentino, Ben De Lisi, Monique Lhuillier and Elizabeth Emanuel; who designed Princess Diana’s iconic dress. Have all sketched out how they would dress Kate Middleton on her big day.

The sketches are all beautiful and it’s hard to pick a favourite. However, I really do like both Valentino designs as they are so regal and elegant. Follow the links here and here for more designer sketches and let me know your favourites…

middleton coat of armsI’ve read a lot about the unveiling of Kate Middleton’s coat of arms in the news over the last couple of days. I think that the design is beautiful and love that the Middleton coat of arms represents the entire Middleton family.

I have found a great video which details the design and explains how the coat of arms will be used by both Kate and her family.
