I know that during the New Year lots of people plan on making lifestyle changes to become fitter, healthier and lose weight.

As a professional business woman with a busy schedule and lots of responsibilities having a healthy lifestyle is greatly important. Furthermore, looking and feeling great makes me feel happier, which is why I’ve recently joined Slimming World and I’m happy to say that I’ve lost over two stone so far.

The Slimming World programme that I am following is a great resource and works brilliantly for me. I simply attend my local group each week where I get weighed and then meet up with other members to discuss progress, recipes plans which worked (and didn’t), future goals and any issues which I feel may become problematic.

Slimming World

The traditional method of attending a session, where support is visible and socialising is incorporated into weight loss very much suits me and my way of life. I even attended in between Christmas and New Year for a push in the right direction in avoiding too many Christmas temptations.

Although I’m a regular attendee I understand that for some going along to such isn’t as easy whether it’s due to schedule, location or being too shy to attend. However, there are other options available.

To the delight of many weight loss programmes have massively progressed recently and many are now available online. Supermarket giants including Tesco and Sainsbury’s both have diet programmes which are orchestrated online and are said to deliver great results.

Similarly Yours Magazine now have an online programme which is exclusive to over 50’s. All offer easy to follow meal plans, healthy recipes options and keep track of any progress; including helping to encourage meeting target weight loss.

Although I’ve not tried online programmes (you can sign up to Slimming World online) I think that they are plausible options. Many supermarket branded schemes cleverly allow you to create a shopping list cemented with ingredients to make their suggested healthy meals. An addition which I feel is very savvy, ultimately making healthier eating incredibly easy.

Regardless of which route you take I think it’s important to remember that applying a fitness plan is also significant. Don’t presume that you need to start running marathons. I take daily walks with my dogs Summer and Toffee which I find keeps me healthy and active.

My Top Tip: Be realistic with your weight loss. Keep your goal and targets at a manageable level and remember that the occasional treat isn’t the end of the world!

Good Housekeeping’s Fabulous and Over 50 Hot List

Like many other women I enjoy flicking through a glossy magazine with a cup of tea when I have the time. I particularly enjoy Good Housekeeping for its variety of excellent features, quality food section and well thought out travel features, which have lots of tips on beautiful places to visit in the world.

The September issue features the ‘Fabulous & Over 50 Hot list’, a poll which lists women over the age of 50 who have the ‘wow’ factor.

Topping the list is 2011’s ‘Body of the Year’ winner 66 year old Helen Mirren who is a great advocate for being beautiful, successful and the perfect example of how to age gracefully. Joining Helen in the top five are…

  1. Helen Mirren- 66       2. Joanna Lumley- 65       3. Dame Judi Dench- 76
  2.  4. Carole Middleton-56      5. HRH The Queen- 85

Fabulous over 50

The top five may come as a surprise for some as no supermodels or enhanced beauties are featured. Instead five naturally aged beauties who carry their ages, roles and jobs out wonderfully.

For me it’s particularly great to see Joanna Lumley receive such a high position as she has achieved wonderful things having recently become well-recognised as a human rights activist thanks to the success of the Gurkha Justice Campaign which she was heavily involved with.

The nod to the Royals is quite spectacular too as the Queen is featured alongside the Duchess of Cambridge’s mother Carole Middleton in the top five and Princess Anne is also listed at number 20. Such suggests that the recent Royal Weddings have shone a positive light on the Royal family which I find rather endearing.

fabulous and over 50

Surprisingly the 100 over 50’s come from a huge variety of public arenas from royalty, the wonderful world of fashion, Anna Wintour is featured at number 22, numerous journalist, activists and politicians including the Home Secretary Theresa May are also included.

More predictably the hot list also embraces famous faces from entertainment like actresses Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep, musicians Debbie Harry and Lulu and TV personalities Fearne Britton and Carol Voderman.

I have to admit that poll like these wouldn’t usually grab my attention. However, this specific one is great as it focuses on women who are doing wonderful things regardless of age. I think that that is something we should all smile about.

Feeling fabulous at 50- Yours magazine Invincible Not Invisible

yours magazineA new study carried out by Yours magazine has revealed that women over the age of 50 are at their happiest.

The ‘Invincible Not Invisible’ campaign interviewed 2,000 women and came out with some fantastic statistics which I am sure all women over 50 will agree with.

Firstly, 92% of women said they were happier than ever before and less than a quarter of the ladies worry about how they look; instead saying that they feel much younger than they actually are.

Endorsed by Lynda Bellingham (left), a devotee to the belief that ‘age is just a number’, the survey portrays a great image for ladies who are 50 plus and one which I am quite happy to applaud.

I personally feel great about my age and it’s fantastic to think other women do too. As a mature lady life seems less stressful and more relaxed, which I certainly can’t grumble at.

Now-a-days I get to enjoy my business alongside time with my friends and family. With a great circle of friends to keep my social life lively and a wonderful, growing family who live in some of the most beautiful part of the world, I have a truly fantastic life.

My business here at Bath-Knight allows me to get stuck in to being a business woman, a role which I love. But I am also a Grandparent and enjoying those moments is wonderful. With so much going on around me; business, family, friends and two boisterous dogs, it’s hard not to stay fit and feel healthy. The truth is I feel incredibly content about being over 50 and I hope you do to!
