Photographs have successfully caught each moment of the Queen’s reign from her coronation in 1952, the hundreds of overseas tours which she has carried out around the world and royal occasions here in Britain and in the Commonwealth nations.

In honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee I’ve chosen a selection of photographs which I think capture some of the Queen’s greatest moments. See her travelling, making the first ever televised Christmas speech and spending time with her family and beloved corgis.

A year ago today everyone was struck with Royal Wedding fever. After organising street parties and hanging bunting, a billion people from across the world tuned in to watched Prince William marry Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey. In a service which was more perfect than anyone could have hoped for.

Happy Anniversary Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Twelve months on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have continued to captivate the world with royal engagements both here and abroad. In the most glorious manner we’ve watched the Duchess blossom into her position as a member of the Royal Family having become a patron to a number of charities and going it alone on official engagements. But most impressively, together, they have managed to add a breath of fresh air into the monarchy.

Time really does fly so from the Bath-Knight team and me, happy first Wedding Anniversary to Prince William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Here’s to many more…

Google Zeitgeist list 2011

As more of us are getting online it’s interesting to read about who and what we search the web for. Today Google, the world’s most recognised and highly thought after search engine, has released its annual Google Zeitgeist list documenting the top web searches of 2011.

The annual study, which is thought to capture the spirit of our age, offers interesting reading as alongside unsurprising top searches are a couple which are a little more obscure.

Google Zeitgeist 2011

The marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton was a huge calendar event this year; I wrote about the event here on my blog and was greeted with a breath taking amount of hits. So it comes as little surprise that the Royal Wedding topped ‘Fastest rising searches in 2011’.

However, other top searches are a little more questionable. For example ‘What is scampi’ was the second top search in Google’s ‘What is…’ list and it would seem that nobody seems to know why. The sudden and bizarre interest in Scampi is a little bewildering but I think this wonderfully illustrates the freedom and ability that the internet offers- endless information to feed your curiosity whatever the subject may be.

Elsewhere on the Google Zeitgeist list 2011 are searches to find out more information about politics. ‘What is AV?’- The Alternative Vote- came high up on the list, which refreshing indicates that people in the UK took the time to research political system which could potentially affect politics here in the UK.

Politicians themselves, however, weren’t so successful. Nick Clegg the Liberal Democrat leader has taken a blow according to Google becoming the ‘Fastest falling person’ to be searched in 2011.

Google Zeitgeist 2011

Of course celebrities, movies and retailers all made it to the top. The likes of Adele, Groupon, Ed Sheeran and Asda become top searches in 2011. Fitting like a glove with this year’s music charts, bargain hunting fascination and the new online discount shopping trend.

It’s incredible to see that Google can produce such a reflective documentation of a period of time. Amazingly simple searches stormed the prestigious ‘Top UK searches’ list with Facebook, YouTube and Hotmail at the helm. All of which are extremely reflective of how and why we use the internet and that’s to communicate with each other.

This weekend the Queen’s eldest granddaughter Zara Phillips got married to England rugby player Mike Tindall in a private ceremony in Edinburgh.

Zara chose a simple and traditional gown designed by Stewart Parvin, one of the Queen’s favourite designers and looked every inch the beautiful bride.

The wedding is said to have been a fabulous day, the sporting couple enjoyed a celebratory reception with their guests in the Queen’s official Scottish home Palace of Holyroodhouse.

After the highly published royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Zara and Mike decided on a low key event inviting only close friends, family and colleagues. Of course all senior royals were in attendance to see Zara said ‘I do’.

The few public photographs of the newlyweds look fantastic. I was however, surprised to hear that the couple is holding off a honeymoon until they’re sporting commitments are cleared.

Congratulations and all the best to the new royal couple, Zara and Mike.

Princess Beatrice Wedding HatAs frequent readers might have already noticed I have added a new feature to my blog ‘Annette’s websites of the week’, where I list my favourite websites.

Last week the famous online auction site Ebay was on the top of my list, as I was busy watching Princess Beatrice’s designer Royal Wedding hat by Philip Treacy be auctioned off with the proceeds going to charity.

The bidding ended on Sunday evening and sold for a massive (and record breaking) £81,101.00. With so much media attention I’m not surprised by its phenomenal success and I’m really happy that Princess Beatrice has chosen to give the money to her favourite charities Children in Crisis and UICEF.

A great end to the Royal Wedding!

Kate’s Bouquet on display of the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey

I previously blogged about traditions that are carried out at royal weddings and I am pleased to hear that Prince William’s bride Kate followed tradition and has displayed her wedding bouquet at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey.

Kate’s bouquet that included sweet William, as well as myrtle, lily-of-the-valley and hyacinth was returned to Westminster after the ceremony and put on display for the public to view along with other flowers and trees which the couple had at their wedding.

The tradition was set by the Queen Mother, who lay her bouquet down at the ceremony itself in honour of her brother. I was a little surprised to see that Kate did not do this too, however the bride travelled back to Buckingham Palace with her bouquet in hand and it was later returned to the Abbey.

The bouquet and a selection of other flowers will be on display in Westminster Abbey until 6th May.

It is wonderful to see the official royal wedding photographs of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The photos were taken by photographer Hugo Burnand shortly after the newlyweds arrive from their wedding service at Westminster Abbey.

Every detail of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and his bride to be Kate Middleton has been thought out with care and perfection. However, the only thing that can’t be controlled is the weather.

I’m sure that everyone will agree that beautiful sunshine on the day will make it extra special for everyone from the royal couple themselves to spectators in London, and spectators across the country who might be at street parties or celebrating in their gardens like myself.

rain or shine

From the gorgeous summer time weather, which we have seen across the country over the last week I feel optimistic that the weather will hold out until the big day.

To keep up to date with the forecast keep an eye out for 5 day forecasts for a general overview of the predicted weather, available at the MET Office and BBC Weather. For a more detailed forecast I will be checking out the MET office online forecast tomorrow evening.

Fingers crossed for lovely weather which will make for a fantastic day!
