strawberry and cream sandwich verdictLast week I blogged about Tesco’s new sandwich, which celebrates the finest British summertime ingredients just in time for Wimbledon.

I saw one of the bizarre Strawberries and Clotted Cream Sandwich creations in Tesco’s today, so thought it would be a good fun to have a tasting session with some of the Bath-Knight team.

The Verdict– It went down well with some, and was even compared to a Victoria sponge cake which is pretty impressive. However, my comparison would be that of a jam sandwich, which was a little soggy!

Overall we were cut down the middle- The sandwich was enjoyable for a couple of the tasters and just OK for others. Generally we thinks it’s a quirky was to get people taking about Wimbledon and our favourite summertime strawberries of course.

I had to laugh this morning when I read that Tesco have launched a strawberries and clotted cream sandwich.

The bizarre sandwich was supposedly invented to celebrate the quintessential British summertime; it’s even packed in a Union Jack designed packet. I’m sure Tesco are hoping Wimbledon spectators will be stopping off to buy one just before entering Centre Court, but I’m not convinced.

I adore strawberries and cream, however, I’m not sure that making the classic summertime snack into a sandwiching filling is the most appropriate way to celebrate Wimbledon or British summer.

So the big question is will you be including Tesco’s latest sandwich into your lunchtime menu? We all seem to think not, but I would love to hear your thoughts.

And another thing… What is your favourite ‘bizarre’ sandwich choice? Leave a comment to let me know.
